I would not, MSI has the worst Quality Control on their low end board, I have had two MSI motherboards for budget builds for clients come to me with bent CPU socket pins. In my client builds In order I stick to Gigabyte, Asus, Asrock, and if I have to then i go for the MSI board. Although it is a gaming series board, but I don't trust them I have been burned two time to many.

That Asus z87-K looks pretty good. Is there any other options around that price range? And also (I know this is off topic) but is it worth getting the i5 or should I be aiming for a better CPU AROUND that price range?

The only other i5 you can get which is better is the i5 5690k, which is 20 pounds more expensive, if you only plan on using your PC for gaming and nothing else ( e.g. No rendering or photoshop) then you will not need to buy a i7, I'm guessing you haven't actually bought your CPU yet then?

No i haven't. BTW i just discovered that the ASUS z87-k doesn't support sli in case i might want to do that in the future. Also the reviews look pretty bad. Any other options?

Do you plan on OC'ing? If you don't there is no need for a 'k' version, you can try the Asus z87-A SLI, it's a motherboard suited for SLI, but it is 20 pounds more expensive, or as I mentioned before, drop the CPU cooler, use extra money, get better board :)

I think i might get the ASUS Z87-A then. It looks to be a pretty good board. What about the plus and pro versions? Is there any significant difference between them? Also, i forgot to ask whether i must buy another version of windows when upgrading motherboard, or is there some way of imply transferring it over?

Just make sure you read reviews and see if that board is right for you first :)

Pro has 4 PCIe x1 slots, Plus has 2
Pro has Wifi and bluetooth, Plus dosen't
pro is a Digi 12 phase, Plus is a Digi 8 phase

Wait, they're not under 90 pounds :/ And the Assus z87-A is 99 pounds-ish

I know, im just maybe thinking about stretching my money a wee bit further. After all, the motherboard is basically the heart of the computer and i think you would agree that it would be wise to spend the best you can on it. Just another question, if im upgrading the motherboard, is there anyway to transfer windows over or do i have to buy a new version?

I believe any OS is stored on the hard drive? So if you need to move the OS system to your new PC, just get the hard drive to your new PC( You may have to set up in the Bios of the motherboard and stuff but i don't think there is a need to get a new copy of it)

Ok thank you very much. Looks like i will buy an i5 4690k and have it on an ASUS Z87-A. Alongside my Radeon 7970 XFX Black Edition with 8 gb ram, 650w PSU. Does it sound good?

Yep, all parts should be compatible, though you might need to get a new PSU if you plan on OC'ing and Crossfiring
