my 3-5 years old gateway laptop with windows vista, keeps freezing, and when it freezes it makes a weird noise coming from the bottom of the laptop,i cant eve get on it anymlre,it freezes on startup
It looks to be either alt+F10 or F8 at startup, right about the time you see the bios image right when the computer is turned on. It may or may not show on the screen which to push. Once you're in the recovery program you can usually choose to have it repair it or do a complete factory recovery without saving personal files. Unless you have something important on it do the factory recovery, there's a better chance of it fixing whatever is wrong.
If it's any type of software issue this should fix it.
i did what you said and it brought me to the setup utility screen and i dont see a repair or recover option but when i start it up it saysf2 for bios settings and f10 for boot menu
It's not the bios menu, but it could be in the boot menu, probably not though. Did you try holding down alt and pushing F10 repeatedly? Or F8 by itself repeatedly?
