Sennheiser HD 558 vs HD 598, worth it?

Hello, I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 558's and I'm wondering if it's worth the upgrade to the HD 598's, as I can afford them, also I heard that the bass on the HD 598's is weak, is this true and is it worth upgrading? They will be used for a mixture of gaming and music.

I doubt it's worth it. I own the 558s as well, and the difference in the two is pretty small, as I understand it.

Are you dissatisfied with your 558s? For a real difference, I would think you'd have to go up to the 600 series.

Check out the headphones section at audiokarma.org. There are a lot of really good headphones out there. You may find some advice for some perfectly tuned to your needs.

I own both and the soundstage, clarity, and comfort are definitely better on the 598. I listened to almost every type of music and the 598's came out on top each time. The drivers may be the same but they do not sound identical!
Now for the money, 558 is a great buy...so for headphones around $100, 558's are tough to beat. They sound better than my Shure440 (these do also sound great, BTW), Sony Mdrv6, CAD MH310, etc.
So stay within your price range and when you see 598's on sale then upgrade and sell your old ones.....that's what I do. :)
