Two days ago, my monitor went into power saving mode unexpectedly while I was watching youtube. The sound continued however. The problem reoccured yesterday. Both time it woke up when I moved the mouse.

Today it went into power saving mode and wouldn't come out of that state. Now the computer boots straight into that mode as follows:

1. I powerup the computer, no beeps heard.
2. the black "loading Operating System" etc runs
3.the black screen with windows coloured shapes fly together to make the logo and the words Windows 7 appear.
4. The monitor shuts down into power saving mode.

5. the PC box power light is on (external light at front)
6. the internet light by the cable port at the back is lit
7. the fans are all running and all the usual lights appear to be on

8. the keyboard lights come on initially during power up then go off
9. the wacom tablet same

10. the mouse is lit up

11.I can't seem to boot into safemode - the computer just powers down.

If anyone can help I'd be very grateful, thank you!

....I've just plugged in a different monitor which is working for now and now the keyboard is too. I'm wondering if that means it's definately a monitor issue or it just be coincidence that it works with another screen. I guess I should try it for a bit and see?

1. The monitor I've JUST plugged in and works is a crappy old thing without even a make on it (which means it isn't so crappy after all if it works!)

2. The monitor that just goes into power saving mode is about 6 months old and is a Dell U2412M
