I'm going to upgrade to an i5 3570k and since I can't overclock on my current mobo (H61MH) I wanted to upgrade because I could get much better performance with overclocking. Anyways, the motherboard I was looking at was this one: GIGABYTE GA-B75M-D3H. It's really cheap and has pretty good reviews.
So anyways, is this a good motherboard for overlocking the 3570k?

No. That is a B85 motherboard, which will not allow you to use the overclocking capability with your 3570K. I would get a Core i5-4690K and a Z97 board instead, and if you cannot afford that, an H97 board with the i5-4590.

For overclocking you're going to need a Z77 motherboard. Since it's older stuff, it's harder to find them on the stores' shelves. There are some options, but maybe you could search for some used ones on ebay and what not. I don't know your budget, so I'm going to leave some options here. Try to find them used at a good price.

ASRock Z77 Extreme4
ASRock Z77 Extreme6
Asus Sabertooth Z77
Biostar TZ77XE3
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP5 TH
MSI Z77A-GD65

What would be the advantage of the Z97 and 4690K over a Z77 and 3570K? I know the clock speeds are a tiny bit higher for the CPU but would that be the only advantage? Also, is the ASRock Z97 Anniversary any good? I don't really know what to look for in a motherboard as I'm a 100% noob to motherboard related stuff as my initial purchase of my current motherboard was done with basically no looking into.

Ok so the ASRock Extreme4 would probably be my choice because it's the cheapest, but my question would be is it worth it to get a Z97 mobo and an i5 4690K? The person before you recommended that and it's not that much more expensive so I'd like to know if there's an advantage in getting it.

Oh, I thought you already had the 3570k... sorry.

In that case I definitely recommend the i5 4690k ($230 on NCIX US) and a good motherboard. What's your budget for it?

Well for both in total, around $300-350, so I could go up to around $120 for a motherboard. Also, what is it that makes different motherboards cost more? Is it only size and number of slots?

For the mobo, the Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3 is good. Any particular color scheme or brand that you want?

Nothing in particular. There are only holes for seeing into my case so I don't care about color scheme and I don't know much about different brands so it doesn't really matter to me.

Thanks for the help so far and you are probably the most helpful (and fastest responding) person to help me not just on this thread, but on this site in general. Anyways, not a fan of the MSI one, but I can't really see much of a difference between the other two. What would be the benefit of going an extra $10 for the gaming 3?

That would help a good bit, the Gaming 3 is probably the best out of them.

Alright. Only question is what is actually different about it?

It has better audio and networking for gaming. The SLI one just supports SLI, which doesn't seem relevant here. The Gaming 3 also supports SLI, too.

Okay so thanks for the help, I'll get the Gaming 3. Also, do you have any idea what is up with this amazon listing: http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-Processor-BX8...

In the title it claims it's LGA 1155 but I'm pretty sure the 4690k only comes in 1150 and also on the description it says 1150.

I'm having second thoughts now on this entire upgrade. Would upgrading to this setup from an i5 3350p even be that much of a difference in gaming?

No, it would not too much, but that isn't great for gaming because it is a low power part. It saves power by throttling and parking cores.
