Ok here is my issue. I had an old IDE hard drive and decided to add it to my computer for extra space. Installed it then started computer. Computer loads BIOS then goes black. Windows does not boot at all. Ive tried to run repair but it does not seem to work. Does anyone know what I possibly did wrong and if there is a way to get windows back up.

it sounds like it may be trying to boot to that drive.

Go into your bios F2 or Esc, or the Del key when first starting to boot and verify that the old hard drive is not listed as your first boot device.

Yeh indeed it does sound like the computer trying to boot off that IDE drive instead. If its an old drive, check if the master pins are selected, if it is change it to slave. If it doesnt have pins, then F2, F10 or DEL depends on motherboard at bootup to enter BIOS menu and deselect the IDE drive from being a bootable drive. That should fix it.

I have tried other boot orders, I must of had an issue with original installation of wins 7 cause it never boots unless i have the cd in. So i have always had to have the cd in enable for it to boot. I try to stay in safe mode but the only os it gives me to select is win xp when is no longer on this drive

got it running. Booted to cd of wins 7, went to Repair Computer, try to re-image the computer. Did not work since I had not saved an image in the past. Came to menu with System Restore, Memory Test, Command Prompt, Etc. Opened the Command Prompt typed Bootrec /fixboot and used a couple other scripts then reran the Repair Computer process, system repair and started windows. thank for the advice
