Hi, between my wifi modem and my pc there is a 40 cm wall (15") and i get 2/5 bars. The modem has internal antennas, the wifi card has the small ones. I found some 9db antennas, will they make a diffence? Pc and modem are on the same horizontal level. I also looked for a directional antenna since the pc doens't move but i only found the usb ones. Thanks

You will likely get some increase in the signal levels but it is hard to even guess how much. The problem with walls is many times the do not absorb a fixed amount of signal. Many times you can double your signal strength and the wall will triple the amount they absorb. So your net increase may be very small.

Really all you can do is try and see what happens. They do make directional antenna that are just antenna. What has happened is the cost to have a directional antenna with the bridge electronics inside is not much more and this is easier for your average person who only understands USB and ethernet cables.

You can get almost anything you can think of from wlanpart.com. Still if you are thinking that option it may be better to try a bridge on each side like engenius enh200. Still is no way to predict how well this would work even if you put them against opposite sides of the wall, you would have to try it and hope it works.

It is surprising how little it takes to block wireless. They put a solar blocking film on the windows where I work and it almost completely blocks the wireless even though you can easily see though it.
