My computer, currently restoring windows as I type this, refuses to install drivers for Radeon r7 260x. I've heard a lot about this cars and it's awful drivers, but I've taken a risk and bought it. I've spent nine hours trying to get this to work. Operating system is Windows 8 (not 8.1) with an HP overlay thing. I've tried disabling onboard graphics power which has helped, allowing me to actually boot up without black screen, but right now every time I try to install any version of catalyst drivers, it gets about 80% of the way through then black screens, computer reboots with HP boot up repair or whatever it's called and forces me to restore windows. Right now it's running on Microsoft Basic Display Adaptor. My neighbor is offering a trade up with his Radeon HD 7770 by Asus, which is just a little worse than my card, which looks like my best option if I can't get the card to work.
Specs of my PC:
Corsair CX500M
12 gigs ram
JasmineR MS-7778
Monitor is HP w1907
I am using the vga-dvi cable adaptor that came packaged with it
Edit: forgot to mention CPU :p
AMD A10 5700K

Have you tried to uninstall the old drivers first?

Do you mean the Microsoft Basic Display Adaptor?

The original one that was installed. Not the generic one that Microsoft uses to get you a display. you can use Driver fusion to uninstall the driver. simple easy gets all but some of the registry entry's because you would need to purchase it for it to do those.

EDIT: Did you enter the Bios and swap it over to use the PCI-e graphics? it can also be written like this: peg/igd. it maybe trying to install the driver for the integrated GPU on the CPU. there are slightly different drivers for those.

Just uninstalled all old drivers, tried to install AMD drivers, no difference. The crash happens every time at around 80% way through the installation. Screen goes black once, comes back for about 2 seconds, goes back to black again, and after 30 seconds of that black screen windows reboots, on load up says there was an error it recovered from

I'll double check the Bios setttings right now.
EDIT:
Intergrated Video is disabled in the Bios. No difference.
EDIT:
Tried installing drivers with default driver install and selecting the drivers folder from installation disc. Same results except this time it crashed my computer. Bad. Another system restore. Anyone got a solution?
