I bought my external HDD 7 months ago.. I never ran any defragmenter, checkdisk, scan disk etc etc diagnosis. Now-a-days, when I'm trying to open a movie or video file (even hose between 10-15 MB), the media player crashes or the folder containing the video file loads for a long time.. the other day, that file was playable as smooth as before.. What would be my problem?

it may be because of bad sectors defrag your drive ....transfer all the data in your external hd to your internal hdd and format the drive then transfer the files back...

I don't have any space for 817 GB data in internal drive.. Can I defrag it alone or I should back-up and format?

While installing defraggler, I chose "Replace Windows Disk Defragmenter", any problem if I defrag it with Defraggler?

There's no real reason to use anything but the built-in Windows defrag tool.
