Gaming Keyboard Recommendations

Hey guys, recently I posted about a new build I was making. It got some good support but I was just wondering if I could follow up on some gaming keyboard suggestions. I understand that no gaming PC is complete without a good functioning keyboard, and with a $150 maximum budget to the keyboard (please be reasonable with the budget though), I was wondering what you guys might think would be a suitable keyboard. Keep in mind that I am not 100% sure on mice yet, but I know that if I brought up mice, I would never get an answer for keyboard (gaming mice is always a more interesting debate). But just for sake of things, say I had a Razer Death Adder, so all those softwares and whatnot should be kept in mind.
Ultimately I am just wondering what Keyboard would be most adequate for gaming (a good price for performance ratio). This is for FPS Games (First Person Shooter, not Frames Per Second), and I don't know what the whole deal with mechanical keyboard is, I have never used one and I've been doing fine without one, but really whatever you more experienced users would deem best. So Ergonomics being taken into consideration, a good response time for the keys. Wired I believe is the best choice, not overpriced, I don't think all those macro keys are an issue for me. I just want a good keyboard that's comfortable to use, and is recommended by gamers for gamers.

But one last thing, is mechanical as good as everyone says it is? Will I be able to adapt from my "flat keyboard" to mechanical if that really is the way to go? So far I use a flat keyboard (like one of the mac ones) and It's been nothing but fine for me. Bu if Mechanical is the way to go then that might be best. Anyways thanks guys.

Sir, better read what reviewers have to say about k70 and see for yourself why I recommended it. I can't explain the mechanical switch touch because it will...

Currently finding myself very nice and comfortable with a Roccat ARVO compact keyboard and a Steelseries Sensei RAW mouse.
They feel like solid products for how much they cost, and are very comfortable, although the compactness of the Roccat takes a while to get used to; directional keys, function keys (del, ins, pgup, pgdown, etc...) and the numpad are all in the same area, switched by a single button.

Tried a Razer mechanical keyboard off a friend (can't remember the exact model, but I can remember it was HEAVY), and used to have a non-mechanical non-gaming keyb. You won't notice any difference with good quality products...

As for the difference between mechanical or not, mechanical keyboards have a physical switch per each key, rather than a contact-based mushy plastic membrane, so they usually feel more responsive and last longer, while also giving you the feeling you're actually pressing a real button, and not some electronic board-contact-based contraption. It can't really be explained accurately anyway, as you yourself need to feel the difference and think if it's useful or not for you.

When I mentioned the Razer mouse, it was purely to suggest brand loyalty between a good mouse and keyboard, which I hope to fall victim of. I have in fact decided that the Corsair M65 was going to be my preferred mouse, so the question is whether the Corsair Vengeance K70 Black will live up to the margin set for it. However it may be the direction to head in. Any reasons for this keyboard choice however?

Trust me, Razer was just a demonstration for brand loyalty. I know not to head in that direction. They're the Beats by Dr Dre of the Keyboard industry, overpriced and all just a logo. That's not to say that they're bad, just expensive. I am heading in the Corsair form of direction, a vast majority of my build is Corsair, so I do trust their products. Mechanical does sound like something I'll try out, and you certainly seem to know your stuff. And you're right about feeling as though I'm pressing a "electronic board contact based contraction", I hear great things about mechanical and it seems to be the way to go. Thanks

This might help you decide between switches

Personally I like Reds but if your doing a lot of typing I would recommend Browns. The slight extra force required to push past the actuation point will reduce mistakes as you are probably used to having a bit of resistance in your keys. You'll also learn where the actuation point is, so you will find you'll start bottoming out less and typing faster. This will happen with Reds too, but you'll probably make more mistakes initially, as you'd be used to having a bit more pressure in your key presses, and it will take longer to learn the actuation point. As for gaming, a lot of people tend to say Reds are better for FPS due to the lack of hesitation in the keys giving slightly better response times, but really it doesn't matter too much and both are very good gaming switches.

Black seems too heavy and mechanical keyboards are noisy enough without the extra clicking from Blues, but this is just my opinion.

Also look a getting a pack of these:

They reduce the clacking of the keys bottoming out considerably, as well as reducing the key travel distance resulting in faster typing.

I know, but since you mentioned it I just used it as well, and since it's usually the one that comes to mind faster it's also an easier example :p
But yeah, it's overpriced quality you're looking at anyway.

As I and someone else stated, it's something you need to try on your own before you actually decide to switch. I, for one, am having no issues whatsoever with a non-mechanical kb, but you could have them.
I believe this thread has plenty of information already, so you might want to do some googling and review reading on your own ;)
