Laptop quite slow to boot and navigate.

Hi,

I'm not very well versed in computer. Today my father-in-law asked me if I couldn't make his laptop run faster. I honestly don't know where to start.

I timed the boot sequence, and it takes around 2 mins to arrive to the session screen.

This is a 2008 Sony Vaio, running Windows Vista. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

upgrade the ram defrag the hard drives scan the system with an updated antivirus, remove the temp files,close unwanted start up program's...or u can also download & install tuneup utilities and it will do most of the work for u ....
