Hey Everyone,

I recently bought a new gaming PC. On boot it said something about running PCI-E 1 (My graphics card) in PCI-E 2.0 when its a 3.0 card...

Can anyone help?

specs
Motherboard: Msi Big Bang Xpower II
Cpu: 4820k
Ram: Corsair Dominator 8gb 2133mhz (running at 1333mhz)
Graphics: Msi GTX 780 3gb DDR5 OC
Primary Drive: Intel 530 120gb SSD

FIX:

Go into the BIOS and Enable PCI-E Gen 3

Solution
From this site, http://www.vmodtech.com/th/article/intel-core-i7-4930k-ivy-bridge-e-with-msi-big-bang-xpower-ii-and-msi-geforce-gtx-780-lightning-review/page/all, it lists the MSI GeForce GTX 780 LIGHTNING as PCI-E Gen 2.0 in GPUZ.

It also lists the PCI-E Controller as 2.0. Probably since the X79 chipset supports natively support PCI-E 2.0. http://ark.intel.com/products/64015/Intel-BD82X79-PCH.

According to wiki, "Newer Core and Xeon processors address 40 PCI Express 3.0 lanes directly through Sandy Bridge-E architecture (Xeon) and Ivy Bridge architecture (Core processors)" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_X79.

What is your CPU? Sandy Bridge I7 like I7-3970X support 2.0...

You probably plugged in your graphics card a PCI-E 2.0 slot on your motherboard.

According to the MSI website, http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Big_BangXPower_II.html#hero-specification, your motherboard has 7 PCI-E slots. PCI-E slots 1, 3, 5 and 7 are PCI-E 3.0 while PCI-E slots 2, 4 and 6 are PCI-E 2.0.

Download GPUZ. Open it. Press the small question mark next to "Bus Interface" then "start render test" then take note what it says in "Bus Interface". It should say PCI-E 3.0 x16 @ x16 3.0.

But... from the first site I linked, they used an i7-4930K but still lists the 780 as 2.0. Maybe a BIOS or motherboard driver update can fix it.

Ok, Ive done that and it gives me: PCI-E 2.0x16 @ x16 2.0... so... I dont think that helps. But thanks for the response
