Just got new acer computer, plugged it into old monitor via VGA cable, nothing appeared on the screen. After trying many things to get it to work I decided to try and connect it to my little (18inch) LCD ALBA tv via a HDMI cable, it worked. The problem is that the picture quality is terrible, the text is fuzzy and there's hardly any sharpness to images. I've tried adjusting the resolution and it is currently on its native setting which looks best. Tv is currently set to 1080p.

Why is the quality so bad? Is it because of the TV, is it because of HDMI cable.

Thank you to anyone that replies.

It's because of the TV... you should be able to get the old monitor to work... what are the connectors on the new PC? You would normally expect some combo of VGA, DVI, and HDMI...

I thought it might have something to do with the TV, it is pretty old and cheap HD. The PC has 2 HDMI ports (one of which is blocked by a cap), a DVI port and VGA port which had a screwed on cap over it when I first got it. If I get a new monitor and use the HDMI connection, will the quality be normal?

I doubt that tv to accept 1080p as native resolution. Whats the model number of your tv. Or check it yourself on its website. The native resolution should be 1440x900. Set it to that resolution and see if the picture quality is still bad. Also, on your old monitor select the input as vga and then see if it works.

OK thanks for the reply, I will try what you have said. Can you tell me how I select the input as VGA on my old monitor. I think the model number is ATVD91186B.
