Hey guys,

I've gutted out an old pre-built computer (Acer M1640) and installed brand new parts (motherboard, memory, chip etc) into the old case, but was struggling to work out how to properly connect the front panel to it. The old mobo had 14 pins which weren't as intuitively (to me, at least) labelled as the 20 on the new one.

The old case's front panel connector is described at http://www.elvikom.pl/download/file.php?id=20874 on page 80/89 and the motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-H81M-DS2 (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4665)

Any help appreciated, thanks!

okk then you will find a hd audio cable connect it to the audio written port of the mobo ...a 2.0 usb cable to 2.0 usb socket....and for the power switch hdd led restart etc ,you will find bunch of small black plugs like hdd led /power led/ restart led positive / negative etc u have to use your mobo manual to instal them the sockets are located at the bottom right corner of the board and dont worry if you install the power led incorrectly it will not harm your system just the switch will not work .................. all the sockets for the front pannel are located at the bottom of the board ...

Thanks for replying so quickly! My problem is more with the HDD led/power led/restart connections. I have the leads to connect the mobo to the case but due to the old board's unhelpful manual, I can't figure out which of the case's female ports correspond to the power switch/LEDs etc.

From what you said though, nothing catastrophic will happen if I get them wrong though, so would simple trial and error be the best way to find out?

I have the manual for the motherboard as well, my problem was that the two sets of ports/pins don't seem to correspond with each other (as there are different numbers and they seem to do different jobs).

I think I will make an educated guess on the pins, given their names and see whether the right LEDs light up! Thanks again
