MX Player is for Android devices, not officially supported on Windows although I know there's a way to make it run on Windows.
Because it's not officially supported I doubt you can make it the default media player, but if you can, you should be able to do it on Windows 7 from:

Start > Default Programs
Sort by date Sort by votes
