I already own a Sapphire R9 290 Tri X OC and realized how awful the FPS actually are.

Since I have a 120Hz monitor I was hoping to get at least close to 120 but in games such as Tomb Raider or Rift I get only around 40-60 FPS.

So I thought I could buy another for crossfire. The question is, is the R9 290 any good for crossfire?

I know that the R9 290 is already very price efficient, probably the card that gives the most FPS per £1 but what about the crossfire? Is it still a good choice or should I just wait for the next time I upgrade?

Is it also a good time to buy another or would it be better to wait for the next card releases?

Thanks in advance.

I would say, since the other cards are near wait for them and if they are disappointing(in price and/or performance) get the 290. Don't forget to check your system specs before upgrading.

I have an R9 290 with an 144hz monitor. In tomb raider i get an avg. fps of 84,3. I don't know what the problem is with your system. I gues an bottleneck with CPU? Or you forgot to download the latest driver?

On the crossfire part. I think it will increase your performance, but you will not double it (by far). Crossfire is only realy good when playing on multiple monitors.

When adding a second card in crossfire you are only going to get about a 50% boost in fps. Adding a 3rd only adds about another 25-30%.

The benchmarks from that site seem to be similar to mine. It says that average is 46 while I get around 49.

My CPU is the i5 4760K with 16 GB 1600 DDR3 RAM by Kingston.

I guess I'll just wait for new cards but the next time I'll probably buy SLI/Crossfire right away. I feel like single card performance is pretty bad if you want more than 50 FPS.
