Migrating over to new windows

Hey guys. My computer needs a fresh install of windows and im thinking of taking the plunge to windows 8.1. My question is when i make the switch am i going to lose the data on my spare hard drives that i use for movies, music etc? Can i just install windows and then plug in all my drives and have them work with no problems?
 
Solution
You should have no issues just disconnecting that drive while installing.

I always recommend disconnecting other drives when reinstalling. You can always reassign letters after the install is done.

You should also grab any game saves or files(c : \ users \ yourloginhere \ ) that are on the current drive and place them on the second drive.

[strike]Depending on your NTFS security settings you may have to take ownership of your files from the new load of Windows. You can do this from the drivers property page in explorer (Start + E) on the security tab select Advanced. From the new Window that opens select Owner and set yourself as the owner and select the checkbox for Replace owner on sub containers and objects then hit apply. The...

Beat to it and that is WAY better since it is Windows 8 centric. Funny thing. I have not had to take ownership on Win8 yet.
