Fellas, Happy Friday!

Currently I own an EVGA GTX 660. For the past week I've been considering getting another one and doing SLI. Today I received an email from newegg that one of the cards is on sale but I wanted to make sure that I can sli without any issues.

Current card: 2GB EVGA GTX 660 02G-P4-2660-KR

On sale: 2GB EVGA SuperClocked 02G-P4-2662-KR GeForce GTX 660

Would there be any issues?

Unless I should totally scrap that idea and go with 770.

Thanks!

ah - it posted my thread in systems instead of graphics. I'd appreciate if someone could move it since I'm not able to find this option or to remove it >_< sorry!

What ubercake said is true, but whether or not it's worth it to get a second card depends on the rest of your hardware; Your PSU and motherboard must be able to handle SLI. If they can't handle SLI, it would probably be cheaper to get a more powerful single card like the GTX 770.

As long as they are the same model , you can sli them. They dont have to be the same brand either or have same clock speed .In sli both cards will throttle down to reach the clock rate of the slowest card.

As far as your 2nd question, if you will be upgrading when x99 platform is out then just get another 660 and save your money. Otherwise, get a 770. If you are going to upgrade your system to x99, until then your sli 660 will handle games just fine. You might need to upgrade your psu for sli but you can carry that over to x99 upgrade when time comes.

Edit: Your psu is fine. No need to upgrade that.

Thanks guys. I probably should've mentioned the rest of my setup:
- Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz LGA 1366
- EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR ATX X58 SLI LE Mobo
- CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W Power Supply
- OCZ Gold 16GB RAM
- Dual monitor: 24" 1920x1200 and 23" 1920x1080
- COOLER MASTER HAF 932 RC-932-KKN1-GP

Also getting a 512GB SSD with the same order.

I disagree with the 2GB card in SLI. Personally I think it would do ok now, but pretty quick the vram would be an issue. I'm also running a GTX660 and I regularly see 1.2-1.8GB vram usage(1.8 in Bioshock Infinite) already in current games at just 1080p. It won't be long until they are crossing over 2GB vram usage regularly(Wolfenstein already is) and then your SLI setup will hit a brick wall.

I think you'd do better to buy a GTX770 and sell your current GTX660 to pay for some of it(or repurpose it to someone else or another of your computers).

FYI, I have an SLI board and and plenty of power for an SLI setup because that was my original plan, but seeing how games jumped up in vram usage about a year ago I'm no longer going to do it. Instead I'm going to wait for a GTX860.

On that system, I'd look to get another 660. It's the least expensive option for now.

Your system is getting on the older side so enjoy the almost double performance of the second 660 for now and save your loot for a future system upgrade with the next go-around of i7s.

I use the 1920x1200 as my primary for gaming, the secondary is just for the things I do on the side.

I'm kind of torn apart now. I was planning on a full system upgrade with new i7s and gtx 800 series but they keep being pushed back and no final dates are announced yet. The 660 is already having a difficult time with some of the games I play or software I run.

Thanks again fellas for all the feedback it's greatly appreciated.
