Hey
So I pre-ordered an Oculus rift sdk2 set a while back, but I doubt that my machine will be able to run it smoothly. For those unfamiliar with sdk2 spec's it is somewhat equivalent to running 1080p stereo 3d at 75 frames per second.

My machine is running two nvidia gtx 460 1 gig ram edition, decent ram chips running at 1400 mhz and an old i7 920 running at 3.7 ghz. The overclocking on my i7 920 is pluss one to core multiplier and the rest is blck overclocking. I'm expecting that I will need to get a new gpu, do you guys think something like an HD 7970 or r280x will do the trick? I hope that I will be able to use my i7 920, but I'm not sure if it will bottleneck my system preventing smooth 75 fps or not.

As a small side note, I'm trying not to spend to much money on this upgrade as I plan on building a new system with next gen hardware when the Oculus rift cv 1 is released.

Solution
I would think changing the graphics card to a HD7970/R9-280X would be all that is needed. I would not expect any bottlenecking from the i7 at the frequencies you're running your CPU and ram
