No power to the CPU fan

Specs:
CPU i5 3570k
GIGABYTE GA-H77N-WIFI
Vengeance 8Gb Ram
450watt power supply
Windows 7

My sock CPU fan does spin on start up. The computer loads onto the login screen and afterwards I shut it down to prevent damage to the motherboard.
I replaced the stock cooler to see if that was the problem. I installed the Rosewill RCX-Z300 and I still have the same problem. This leads me to believe that the motherboard pins are damaged.

Is there a way to turn on the CPU cooler while not being connected to the motherboard?

  1. You can plug it into another fan header and link that fan header to the CPU temperature, or get an adaptor for a molex connector and let it run at full speed.
  2. check bios to see if fan header has been turned off. That said, I have had headers go bad on motherboards before, it is not that uncommon
  3. What is the adapter called?

    molex to 4pin fan header
  5. It would, but you will not be able to regulate speed with it. The fourth pin controls speed. I believe this would work for you...

  6. I would go with the amazon one TBH, you probably dont have a super loud CPU cooler so regulating CPU fan speed may not be important. I dont see how the silverstone one will work when his 4pin header is broken.
  7. sorry disregard link. The link is assuming you have another free 4-pin on available on your mother board like most do. What is your motherboard make/model
