Greetings,

I have 4 HDDs right at the front of the box (Zalman Z3).

I also have a 120mm fan i'd like to place as an intake fan at the front of the box. Should i put it right in front of the disks, blowing air onto them, or is that stressing the fan too much (as there isn't much space for the air to flow through)? Should i put the fan above the HDDs instead, so it has unimpeded airflow?

That does not stress the fan at all. Air not being directed through them has nothing to do with the fan itself. If you want a good pressure-directed fan, try the Silverstone AP series fan. They don't run at fast RPM, but they are great for directing air current.

You mean right in front of the disks? The fan's a Noctua FLX.
