Best H97-Z97 mobo for $1300 video editing PC

This my present conf, to be used for video editing under EDIUS or PowerDirector and sometimes realtime game engine such as CryEngine:

Mobo Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H Socket 1150 Intel H97 DDR3 USB3 ATX

Questions:

- Worth the effort upgrade to 1866 RAM?
- Asrock Z97 Extreme3/Pro3 can be a better choice? Or others?
- There are similar priced mobo with Thunderbolt?

Any H97 motherboard will do just fine. If you want to go for a crossfire or soemthing in the future, then you should go with a z97.

Otherwise, stay with the h97.

RAM, if you don't mind going with a different brand, it's cheaper.

Motherboard related, I'm not sure about the difference in price. upgrading to the asrock z97 extreme3/pro3 doesn't seem worth it unless you plan on having a multi card set up or if you're overclocking which you probably arent' since you don't have a k-series chip.

Ok for the Gskill RAM but Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H didn't support 1833Mhz ...

The question is: worth using a 1833 over 1600? What's a good mobo for that RAM? It's compatible with planned CPU and GPU?

To take advantage of the 1866Mhz ram, you'd probably need this.

RAM might help with rendering with the faster speeds and lower latency. Someone else would have to give their insight into this.
