I am currently considering upgrading my current AMD 7850 to the 280x which i read is pretty good, my only concern is my PSU i am not sure if i am gonna need to upgrade it, that's my current setup:

PSU: XFX 550w
Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
CPU: AMD FX-8350
Ram: Kingston HyperX 2x 2gb + 1x 4gb (total 8gb)
GPU: Gigabyte 7850 HD OC
Storage: 1x WD 5200 RPM caviar green 1tb HDD + 1 seagate barracuda 7200 rpm 1tb HDD.
OS: Windows 8.1

I got no dvd or bluray roms\writers and i only have few USB devices connected all the time (Bluetooth Dongle, Microsoft 360 receiver, headphones).

Do you reckon i am gonna need to upgrade my PSU as well?

HD 7850 requires 21 Amps on the 12v rail & a 500W PSU minimum

R9 280X requires 30 Amps on the 12v rail & a 550W PSU minimum

IMO your more than fine, the XFX 550W has 44amps on the 12v rail. You invested in a good PSU & now you get the rewards.

Except doing the bare minimum is a good way to age that sexy fine Psu and cause ripples more frequently but hey, long as all the sensitive equipment isn't worth that much to you then go for it.

XFX 550W will power that list fine. If you are or will be heavily overclocking then i'd suggest 650W instead.
