I'm hoping someone can help me with this.
I just moved, and switched Internet providers. Since I've had this new provider (Brighthouse), my laptop will not keep a stable internet connection. It will work perfectly, then within a few hours the connection will be lost. I have to troubleshoot/repair it, and I get the message "Wireless Network connection does not have a valid IP configuration." Then it works fine again. Few hours later, same thing. I thought it was just when connected wirelessly, but the other night the same thing happened when plugged directly into the modem. "Local Area Connection does not have a valid IP configuration." This same laptop worked perfectly when I had a different internet provider (Verizon) and modem a few months ago. I have called Brighthouse numerous times, had 3 techs to the house and have a 4th one scheduled for Sunday but they don't seem to understand what I'm talking about and they obviously aren't fixing the problem. All they do is tell me the signal strength is fine, and they leave. 2 hours later I have no internet again. Even I have figured out that is not the root of the problem. I need someone who understands computers/networks to help me. This has also happened on 2 different models of Brighthouse modems. They thought maybe my laptop didn't like their brand new, top of the line modem so they switched it out for an older model....same exact problem. This was never a problem until I switched to this new internet service, so something must not have been configured correctly when the service was set up. PLEASE HELP! I have online classes that I can't even do at home because of this.
I had my 6th tech come out the other day, and tell me that because my iPad and iPhone never lose connection, the issue is on my computer (duh) and is probably due to a virus/corruption somewhere in Windows. He suggested I do a clean reinstall of Windows. I was planning on doing that, until I took my laptop to work today and had absolutely no issues with my wireless connection whatsoever.
Another thing possibly relevant, before I moved I had a DSL modem/router...now I have a cable modem. Could my laptop have an issue with the cable modem? Any help would be appreciated!!!
I've done my own research and know that the following cmd info is required. I ran it once when the internet was connected, and once when the connection was lost, and it was identical, if that matters/helps....
