I'm hoping someone can help me with this.

I just moved, and switched Internet providers. Since I've had this new provider (Brighthouse), my laptop will not keep a stable internet connection. It will work perfectly, then within a few hours the connection will be lost. I have to troubleshoot/repair it, and I get the message "Wireless Network connection does not have a valid IP configuration." Then it works fine again. Few hours later, same thing. I thought it was just when connected wirelessly, but the other night the same thing happened when plugged directly into the modem. "Local Area Connection does not have a valid IP configuration." This same laptop worked perfectly when I had a different internet provider (Verizon) and modem a few months ago. I have called Brighthouse numerous times, had 3 techs to the house and have a 4th one scheduled for Sunday but they don't seem to understand what I'm talking about and they obviously aren't fixing the problem. All they do is tell me the signal strength is fine, and they leave. 2 hours later I have no internet again. Even I have figured out that is not the root of the problem. I need someone who understands computers/networks to help me. This has also happened on 2 different models of Brighthouse modems. They thought maybe my laptop didn't like their brand new, top of the line modem so they switched it out for an older model....same exact problem. This was never a problem until I switched to this new internet service, so something must not have been configured correctly when the service was set up. PLEASE HELP! I have online classes that I can't even do at home because of this.

I had my 6th tech come out the other day, and tell me that because my iPad and iPhone never lose connection, the issue is on my computer (duh) and is probably due to a virus/corruption somewhere in Windows. He suggested I do a clean reinstall of Windows. I was planning on doing that, until I took my laptop to work today and had absolutely no issues with my wireless connection whatsoever.

Another thing possibly relevant, before I moved I had a DSL modem/router...now I have a cable modem. Could my laptop have an issue with the cable modem? Any help would be appreciated!!!

I've done my own research and know that the following cmd info is required. I ran it once when the internet was connected, and once when the connection was lost, and it was identical, if that matters/helps....

That IP address won't work. If your gateway is 192.168.0.1 then your hosts on the network will probably want to have 192.168.0.x /24 ip addresses rather than the /16 network of 169.254.*.*. Have you tried going into the properties of your adapter and using a static ip address? You can get there from network and sharing center / change adapter properties/. Right click on the adapter (wired or wireless) and click properties. Go to the Internet Protocol 4 line (TCP/IPV4) and click properties again. Change to "Use the following ip address". Now you can enter an ip address. Try 192.168.0.10 or something not being used by your iPad and set the gateway and dns to 192.168.0.1. If this does not work or youy want to switch back, just recheck the autoconfiguration box and it will go back to how it was.

I had a similar problem with an ISP and found it had to do with the modem functioning as a bridge to my wireless router. Are you using a separate Wireless access point or is this a modem/access point provided by Brighthouse?

That did not work. It said 192.168.0.1 was not a valid gateway. When I set that IP address, it automatically put in 255.255.0.0 as a gateway for me. I think I need a static IP address that isn't going to change (that might be the problem) I just need to find one that works. And yes, it's a cable modem provided by Brighthouse. I never had this problem with my previous DSL modem, or the DSL modem at my office.
