Athlon 760k isn't an APU, it is related to them and uses the same motherboard. Essentially it is the quad core from the APU with the graphics disabled.

Practically any cheap FM2+ motherboard will suit your needs. Anything from the previous generation of APU should be able to crossfire with your video card. You can check here for compatibility: http://www.amd.com/en-us/innovations/software-technologies/dual-graphics#desktop

A10-6800k would be the best chip that will crossfire with your card.

Not seeing anything to the contrary, so probably 1.0 or 1.1. A full x16 lane shouldn't cause any issues for an HD6670.

Motherboard is fairly old, might consider an upgrade in the near future. You can pick up an FM2+ motherboard, Athlon 760k quad core (3.8GHz) and 8GB of memory for approximately $200.

That just sets the maximum data rate at which the card can talk to the rest of your system. The HD6670 is not a fast card to begin with and DDR3 would seriously limit its bandwidth as well. It is highly likely you are not fully using the PCI Express lanes available to the card.

Crossfire would depend on the exact model of HD6670. To be able to crossfire with the latest APUs I don't think it is new enough. The older APUs aren't exactly ideal in terms of processor performance.

FX processors do not have built in graphics, so you would be in the same situation there, but with a faster processor. It really depends on how much you have to spend.
