Hi, I hope this would be the correct place to ask, but I'm having some weird problems with my motherboard. Every time I install Windows 7 (and it loads) my motherboard produces a high pitch tone/noise, coming from the area to the left of the CPU-socket (about 5-7 cm away).

I have have invested a lot of time into fixing this problem myself, but this one certainly is a stubborn one. All operating systems I have tried does not produce this noise, be it Windows 8, Ubuntu, Arch Linux, Windows XP or whatever. It is only when Windows 7 is installed and loaded. In fact, the noise starts at the login-prompt.

I have tried all settings in BIOS, from power saving settings to max power settings, disabling things, overclocking and underclocking, and so on, but no difference what so ever. I have also tried all the power settings in Windows 7 as far as I know.

All firmware and drivers are up to date, and I have also tried rolling some back at a time, no difference. Windows 7 is fully updated.

It is with 100% certainty that the noise comes from the already mentioned area on the motherboard. I have tested all components and the setup thoroughly, and no other devices have an impact, like all other similar problems suggest. No wires are in contact with something else either. Warranty is exceeded, by the way, as the hardware is about 2 years old.

My rig is:

AMD FX 8120, 4 GHz
8 GB DDR3 RAM, 1600 MHz
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX (1st. version)
ASUS Nvidia GeForce 550 Ti, 1 GB
Corsair 850 watt PSU, bronze

I can provide more info if needed be.

I hope someone can help.

Solution
It seems like I oversaw that there were new Windows updates, and that these new updates actually managed to deal with the problem. I can't remember which ones, but if anyone should have the same problem, just fully update Windows 7, including the optional updates. :)
