I plan on purchasing a new PC sometime in the future because my current one can't handle modern games and I need to know what kind of speakers would be good for gaming and music. I've searched the web a bit, and I thought the Bose and the Logitech speakers looked pretty good. So should I stick to looking at these brands for speakers or should I look at something else?

what is your budget?

logitech generally has solid offerings which sound decent for the budget. they tend to offer good volume levels and decent bass response.

however if you want more clarity then you might want to look at the sounsticks iii, creature iii or t20 (but it has no subwoofer so no bass).

if you have a decent budget (say $70-100 minimum) then its also possible to make your own mini hifi system such as this http://www.cnet.com/news/build-your-own-desktop-stereo-for-under-70/ which would likely sound even better.

if you have an even larger budget you could use better speakers and a better amplifier.

unless you are talking about the high end bose products which are fairly decent, most of it is junk and is all name-brand...

Depends on how much $$$ you want to spend. I have some Logitech Z623 (2.1) speakers which are just great for my purposes. I drive them from a motherboard Realtek ALC1150 chip and they sound great with plenty of power and no distortion in my desktop environment. A minor problem is that the sub is hooked to the speakers out on the mb with a single 3.5mm audio cable but then the right speaker, volume and bass controls as well as outputs, is connected to the sub with a serial type cable and is about 5' in length. Left speaker connects with a standard audio cable.
