GPU length problem

I've had my ASUS Essentio cm6850-07 for a couple years now. A year after I got it the GPU burned up and I quickly got a replacement GTX 440 to hold me over till I truly needed an upgrade.

it's got an i7 Quad cpu, and a Crossfire capable motherboard. I'm upping the PSU and GPU.

I'm looking at the MSI GeForce GTX660 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127699&cm_re=GTX_660-_-14-127-699-_-Product)

(As a full-time student I don't have the buget for the machine I'd Like to build just yet. lol)

But my biggest problem is that these cards a 8 1/2 inches+ in length. The case of my computer has more than enough room for the GPU, but both GPU slots are in... sketchy positions.

The top one that is currently in use by the GTX 440 looks as if anything longer than the 440 would overlap the RAM slots (Which run perpendicular to the GPU slot)

And the Bottom one is nowhere near the 2.5 inches off the ground that it needs to be.

I've been n a computer my whole life, but I'm just now getting to where I'm learning software; hardware is something completely foreign to me and I just cant picture in my head if the card will fit in that area. Can anyone give me an answer here? I mean I feel like the positioning of these slots should've been considered when the MB was made.

EDIT: Just incase it wasn't clear my question is more, "am I worrying about this for nothing or is it a legitimate concern.''
