I have had malware and other issues that I think I have cleaned off. In the process, somehow I screwed up something and now I can't connect to the internet. It is an HP win.7 laptop. I know it's not a router issue because nook, kindle, phone...all connect just fine. My laptop shows it is connected to our wireless but when you open the browser, nothing. When I troubleshoot, it finds nothing. Connection Status-IPv4 shows internet...but IPv6 says "No internet access". Realtek wiFi adapter is "working properly". I am at a loss as to what else to do. Please help, I'm a teacher who can't afford to take it in! Thanks

Solution
IPv6 says no access because you aren't using that for Internet access. That is handled via your IPv4 settings.

You can try a couple things. First, disable the wireless adapter. Wait a minute or so, then re-enable it. Try to connect again.

If that fails to solve the issue, try manually setting your DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (they belong to Google).

Please share the results.

OK, I figured out how to change the DNS server...I put them 1st...didn't delete the ones that were there. I still can't open internet. Also, under commands-if I type in ipconfig/renew, it says "No operation can be performed on local area connection while it has its media disconnected. An error occured while releasing interface loopback pseudo interface 1: the system cannot find the file specified."

HALLELUJAH!!! I did this and now I can get on google! YAY and I can go to bed!
In command I typed the following
netsh winsock reset catalog (resets winsock entries)
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (resets TCP/IP stack)
