Shorting the motherboard

So I dug through the forums a little and saw some guys with similar problems, but it didn't seem like they went through all of the steps to fix the problem.

My PC turned off fine last night, this morning it wont kick on. I took the case off and tried shorting the motherboard to turn the PC on. When I touched it with a screwdriver nothing happened. I then unplugged everything and put the paperclip into the 12pin connector to jumpstart the power supply. This turned on my PSU and my video card fans kicked on, and the fans on the PSU turned on.

So now I'm confused as to what the next step or solution is. It feels like the power switch to my pc is no longer functioning.

My mobo is the Asus P7P55D-E
Chassis is Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower
and my PSU is OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI 700W

you take a flat head screwdriver and connect the pins on the board that are the power switch. It checks to see if your power switch is busted. It's a method you shouldn't use often, but it seemed safe enough, I could be wrong. I saw other articles and videos of people doing it.

Things are looking grim. After shorting all the connections and testing the powersupply with a volt meter, I found that the PSU is pumping out proper volts on all the rails, when I short the green and black wires of the 12 pin connector of my PC, the PC starts up, the GPU kicks on, case fans turn on, but obviously nothing on the mobo kicks on because the 12 pin connector is out. When I put the 12 pin connector in, and I try to short the green and and black wires from above, the PSU won't kick on. I'm possibly thinking the mobo thinks it overheated so it wont kick on to try and protect itself. I dont know for sure, I'm taking a stab. Any tips, guesses, advice would be super welcome. Thank you.
