I am having a HP laptop (j048tx) with i7 processor and 8gb RAM. What i want to ask is whether continuously powering a laptop will enhance its battery life? Also i am having shutting down issues.Means my laptop does not shuts down even when i commands it to shut down. I have to hold the on/off switch for some sec and then it gets off.

Liithium battery are affected by Heat. If your laptop battery get warm while plugged, unplug it or get it down to 50 % then recharge it.

But, with laptop (and for car battery) when battery is full, power pack stops recharging your laptop and bypass battery system to gives power directly to the board just as a PSU would do to a desktop computer. so keeping it fully charged while plugging it isn't going to decrease battery life unless, again, your laptop is getting your battery warm.

here is a guide on how this works and how to keep your battery healthy:

Remember: worst enemy of lithium battery = heat

This apply to your cellphone too !
continuously powering it is BAD for battery life. lithium cells decay faster at higher heat and at full charge which is exactly what you're doing if its constantly plugged in. Ideal storage condition is to store at half charge at "cool"/room temp.

If your goal is to prolong battery life and it will sit on your desk plugged in for months at a time then remove the battery. If you're going to be moving every few days then leave the battery in but don't leave it on because you think it will extend battery life. it just hurts it.
