I am lowest level rookie for this kind of forum - Looking for your expertize in matching components for my new mid level rig i have been able to finalize below components so far:

  • Intel® CoreTM i7-4790K
    ASUS Z97-Pro or Z97-A - pl suggest
    MSI R9 280X GAMING 3G

It shall be a Single Monitor set-up with Ambient temp 22-24 Deg Cel,

Once set Unit will not move except for regular dusting purpose
:

Having blown most of my budget on above three, request suggestion/ advice(s) on

Case(Full and Mid Tower)
Cooler
RAM
Monitor(120hz - 22-24 Inches)

Also, i have a very stupid query( still would like to ask it) :D

1. I have a Nvidia 8400 GS(from neolithic age) - can i use it with above with positive impact in performance, if yes then how

Warm Regards, Manish

What purpose is this pc for? Gaming or video rendering?

If it's for gaming, you should consider gpu over cpu. So imo get the r9 290x.

For these I considered your budget:
Case- Cooler Master HAF 912 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
RAM - 8Gb Corsair http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004CRSM4I/?tag=pcpapi-20

Monitor - just buy whatever you like But i'll give a suggestion if your on limited budget as well on this:

Here's 144Hz : http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B2HH7G0/?tag=pcpapi-20

4790k is like 10$ difference if its only for gaming an FX 8320 or I5 4670k would do fine too. This will free up cash for a new video card.

He also talks like he has already bought them, so this may be a non option if this is the case. Unless he can do a return.

But anyways YES the card will work fine, its just wont give you great performance in GPU heavy programs it will bottleneck you CPU pretty badly. But you could get away with it if its just a rendering machine. ( I dont think it even supports Direct X 11 keep this in mind if you are in need of this)

If you can get a GPU like one of these

R9 280X
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125490&cm_re=R9_280X-_-14-125-490-_-Product

GTX 770 the 2 gb version works fine, the 4 gb gives more wiggle room
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130945&cm_re=GTX_770-_-14-130-945-_-Product

If you can find an HD 7970 for a good deal this is also an option, though most places I check dont carry them.

Hello manish,
The parts that u have decided are actually goof enough for 3d rendering or for high quality gaming ( u get extremely good frame rates with 280X).Cming to the RAM i recommend Kingston hyperX 8gb (about 4000rs) would do great.Dell S2240L full HD LED monitor is the best for lower prices(about 8.5k) 21.5 inches i hope it is adequate.Cooler considering u wont overclock i would suggest Cooler Master Hyper 212X for lower prices and it does a magnificent job to keep good temperatures for i7 build. For the case i feel u should buy some cheap ones like the Circle,Zebronics full tower or the cooler master(if u can spend more) but Cirlce does a good job at least for me:).Hope this helps.
The graphics card would not do any good even the u have 2 PCI slots.the 280X is more than sufficient for smooth gaming and rendering.
Regards,
karthik

Dear All, thanks a ton for your responses:

So far,

Intel® CoreTM i7-4790K
ASUS Z97-A
MSI R9 280X GAMING 3G
Case- Cooler Master HAF 912(Thanks to havo_k)

@ Havo_k - Buddy, thanks for cabinet advice, i think there would be clearance issue with Corsair ram and cooler you mentioned(pl comment).

Despite your advice i am inclined towards, i7 and 3gb ddr5 card for the simple reason on bit of future proofing.

About overclocking - i would like to keep an option with me so might be able to learn it and may be use it to my benefit in time to come.

@ Karthik - Brother, i am looking for 120-144 HZ monitor only - reason being what is the use of having all these i7/gpu/mobo if you cant see their effect on game rendering quality - i do not think that rendering @ 60 Hz will suffice.

Deal All, Correct me if i am missing something here.

Nvidia 8400 GS Is a problem, unless he uses the mentioned video cards.

I asked for the totel system budget ( amount of money you can spend on the System ) so that I may throw you a list together on part-picker. It just makes it allot easier.

you are still missing a Power Supply, Hard Drive, Operating system. If your looking into Overclocking later on just grab a liquid cooler its a better option if you can. Also me and the other person made some good ram recommendations also.

My friend ,the monitor which i mentioned earlier was a popular one with a pretty good IPS disply(IPS is the best!) but here i have the ASUS ( i mentioned earlier) VG248QE model of 144mhz refresh rate with 3d support for future ,it costs about 20000 rs! but its worth a buy!

HI Runedj4 - I am not worried sick about "Nvidia 8400 GS" - although i would be happy if i am able to still use it :D

I really do not want to scrap it :/

Ok I am asking you how much money can you spend on this system total, I would highly recommend you get a better video card if you will be gaming it may play some things well but others terribly depending on the game.

But Karthik Ga is right the monitor is a pretty good one!

Thanks runedj ! As he says the games u play nowadys will depend more on GPU more than CPU.So buying a good GPU and an average CPU will be the best option if u use it only to play games and yeah the Corsair TX750 is recommended for your build as it has enough wattage and good efficiency:)

I asked for total budget not remaining. So I take it around 1000$ ? And Yes you can use the Hitachi 7200 RPM Sata iii 500 GB Internal drive. Their only like 60 for a 1 tb HDD anyways if you needed one their pretty cheap nowadays.
