I have a gigabyte am3+ amd 970 sata 6gbps usb 3.0 atx ddr3 1800 amd motherboard ga-970a-ud3p motherboard and need to know what ram to buy. I want a 8gb stick. I will only have 8 right now even though I want 16 (budget problems). I am building my first gaming pc and am not that experienced. Please help. Link me what I need to buy. *reminder, gaming quality 8gb ram* make sure it's compatible with my motherboard please. Could you link me a good idea of what to buy?

G.Skill Ripjaws X

Keep in mind, mixing RAM is not a good idea. It's best to buy 2x8GB as a kit because they are tested and guaranteed to work in dual channel (which your motherboard runs). You can buy a single 8GB now and another 8GB later, but please know that even if you bought the same exact make and model RAM module later, you can still have compatibility issues because the sticks are only tested and guaranteed to work in single channel. You can get them working, but it may require some timing tweaking. Buying the exact same and model RAM module later will increase the likelihood of it working out of the box, but there are no guarantees.

For gaming, 8GB is plenty. So I would recommend a 2x4GB setup: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) ($94.99 @ Newegg).

But if you want 16GB, then the kit: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2x8GB) ($169.99 @ Newegg)

A cheaper set (tad slower): G.Skill Ares 16GB (2x8GB) ($144.99 @ Amazon).
