I had some problems installing windows on my hdd because i deleted the system partition.. Someone told me i had to wipe the hdd for it to work so i ran the clean all command from the installation disk.. It was taking too long so i canceled and ran the clean command instead, i was still having problems so i had to use ubuntu to wipe the hdd clean and create a partition so that windows could install... But i had ALL of my important files stored in the windows.old folder and now every recovery software i use comes up with nothing... Is there anything else i can do to restore it?.. Please help

Hi

Why did you try to delete system partition ?
almost certain to cause serious problems
which propable could be fixed by booting from a Windows CD or DVD
(same Windows version & service pack and 32 or 64 bit level) as on hard drive

(system partitions usually only small and may contain recovery disk files, windows boot files or may be critical GPT partitions.)

what version of Windows?

what was size of previous partitions?

what is size of current partitions?

where are your backups of data, why did you not backup before trying to destroy your data

It all depends on what you mean by using Ubuntu Disk to wipe the hard drive clean

Give the exact set of commands & programs you used

Wipe implies you over wrote the whole hard disk killing all chances of data recovery even by experts

Even if you did not write to all of disk when you re partitioned the hard disk and re installed windows you over wrote a lot of the Windows partition

Some Data Recovery companies do a no fix no fee contract

Have you tried TestDisk / PhotoRec it can find missing partitions
BUT best you stop trying and see an expert if the data is realy important

Or clone hard disk to another one and try recovery methods on cloned disk so if you fail you can go to an expert without doing more damage

There are hard disk viewers which can look at sectors of hard disk to see if all of hard disk is erased and all same character but some erasure programs write random data onto hard disk so you may think there is data when there is not.
