I ordered a gtx 750 for my hp 500-164. It has a 300W psu. I am worried that if the graphics card is too much to handle for the psu and that it might die on me. Should I just wait and upgrade to a 500W psu or try and run it like that.

Solution
Sorry, doesnt matter. Your integrated graphics has a tdp of 66w, pretty much the same as 750ti. So it would work 100 percent. Just make sure to disable the current onboard vga once you install the new one.

But if it is integrated isn't the tdp of 65W for both the processor and integrated graphics?

Sorry about that, apparently there is some misinformation all around regarding this. I have found on several places that it is only for the gpu, but on others that it is for the entire package. That likely puts additional stress of at least 20-30 watts on your psu. I would call this one quite borderline. Unless you can tell me the exact psu model, especially if you can find info on how many amps can it provide on +12v rail?

How do I find the amps it can provide on the +12v rail?

Read the rating under '+12v' on the sticker on your PSU.

Herwizzo the integrated graphics likely uses less than 50% of the 65w TDP, it's not a strong GPU at all.

Yeah, figured this out later, there are several sites labelling only the gpu as 65w, when in reality it is for the entire package. Still, the OP is clearly a good thinker, as these low power psus, most likely old as well, can often be on their limits. Most likely, using bad capacitors as well.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's fine. I know HP like to change OEM PSU suppliers like most people change their socks, but given that we're probably only talking about a 3amp additional load on the +12v it's unlikely that the PSU wouldn't be able to cope.

OP why the 750 and not the 750ti?

I picked it because I felt I did not need 2gb of dedicated memory on the card
