Hi, I had Windows XP installed with few files efs protected with no idea of efs keys and certificates. Since XP was not working fine I reinstalled Vista without toughing my old folders and files. So I have all the previous files and folders in place. Can someone please tell me how to decrypt files? I even have a certificate under Certificates-->Personal-->Certificates and it lists intended purpose as Encryption Files System. So I tried exporting it and it did not work. I ran the elcomsoft recovery software and it scanned few keys and one of them is private key. So could that private key be used to decrypt files? Please I need help. Any response would be appreciated. Thanks

If you didn't export the certificate BEFORE overwriting XP then the files are forever locked.
