As the title says for some reason my audio always cuts off after a while and doesn't work at all. I have installed the newest drivers i have tried going back to older drivers, I have restarted multiple times, (it starts working for a bit after the restart) I have tried disabling and enabling the sound card nothing seems to be working. I also tried with other speakers and headsets.

I would recommend downloading the audio drivers from the HP website. Try this and see what happens. Just enter the model number on the support page and select Audio Drivers.

It is called IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. Unless this is not what you are looking for. Please tell me how to find it if this is not what you are looking for :)

Thanks for the information. Could you also tell me the specifications of your computer?

Alright I will try that but I also figured out that the disabling and re enabling the sound card/driver makes it work for the time being but after a while goes back to its former state of no sound. For some reason it only happens when I am not playing any sound in the background since I haven't had it happen while watching a video etc. Also every time I hit the mute button on my keyboard for my laptop the sound doesn't actually change from mute back to sound and vice versa. Usually its stuck at (for example) 50 volume and when I press the mute button nothing happens neither of the icons change.

EDIT: I just tried it with the driver but I already had it. I decided to uninstall it and re install it but so far no luck. Not sure why it's doing that but I may just have to bring it in for repairs. Thanks for the help anyways!

To this day I still haven't fixed the sound card yet and anyone having issues with it I would recommend bringing it in for repairs if you have warranty. A go around is to hit the windows key + x then select device manager (only works with windows 8 and 8.1) go to sound cards and disable your sound card and then enable it again it should make a sound once you turn it back on and you can continue listening to your audio. One thing to note is that you will have to restart whatever was using audio before you can hear it again (example: watching a video on chrome. Gotta restart chrome first)

I am having the exact same problem , the sound just stops working all of a sudden and I have to restart to get the sound back on again. I wish someone could just tell me what the problem is.

I know, I'm not exactly sure if its the sound card either. But I brought it in before because my fan was having problems so I decided to mention the sound problem as well. Apparently they didn't find any issue either. To this day it still sometimes loses all sound and I have to reset the sound card via device manager which might be a temporary solution for you, instead of having to restart your entire computer (if you are restarting the entire thing).

Assuming you are on windows 8, all you have to do is press the Windows key + X which will bring up a list then select device manager(top part of the list). Once you are in there look for sound, video and game controllers, open that up and right click on the your sound card (if you are not sure you might have to try both of them) and hit disable then hit enable again. You should have sound again, this work for me at least but I'm not sure if itll fully work for you too.
