Need help with a laptop that's stumped me

Okay, I 'm stumped. My laptop, a Gateway NV57H, starts up fine, but after 10 minutes or so it becomes incredibly slow and everything is unresponsive. I used to get a bluescreen error after it being in this state for a while, but I researched it, ran a memory diagnostic, and found out one of my sticks of RAM was fried. Replaced both, doubling the capacity to it's limit (8GB) and I still have the problem. When task manager is open during all of this, it shows that I'm only using 1.6 GB of the 8GB of RAM available, so I've pretty much eliminated that. I ran chkdsk and sfc /scannow from the command prompt, both said there were no errors found on the hard drive. I've done virus scans periodically and they also show up clean. I'm running another now, using Malwarebytes which I updated yesterday. The laptop runs fine in safe mode, no lag and no errors. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be and how to fix it? Thanks!

Hi,

Have you checked it is not overheating as this can cause throttling and cause it to turn off?

If it is, try cleaning the fan(i am on ipad at the moment so cannot find exact tutorial but just goggle it)

Thanks,
Marcus

Hi Marcus,

I don't think that's the problem, but I'll try it anyway. The fan sounds like it's working fine and the airflow coming out of the vent seems normal, and it doesn't turn itself off, just becomes unresponsive and incredibly slow (I'm talking takes at least ten minutes to go to the task manager screen when I hit ctrl+alt+del slow.) Thanks for the suggestion though!
