Regarding Pentium G3420

How does a Pentium G3420 compare to a Core 2 Duo E6800 ? Is the G3420 an upgrade when compared to the C2D E6800 or is it essentially the same thing (no gaming) ?

It's essentially the same tier of performance, the difference being that it has more modern features and consumes MUCH less energy to do so

It is an upgrade but you are still getting a weak dual core. A big step up from the C2D E6800 would be a i5 4670k/FX 8350, i7 4770k is not worth it IMO.
