Hey guys!

My Far cry 3 temp went up to 99*C.

I've had this set up since early January this year, so it is not old.

I have two monitors and at idle right now I am running at 45*C but when I first turn my PC on it runs at about 35*C.

What should I do?

I am planning on cleaning it out soon, but what if the problem persists?

Thanks!

-Qwerty-

**UPDATE**
The idle temperature has gotten higher. It was around 50*C today.

You can see my full system specs on my profile.

**UPDATE 2**
I've ordered some thermal paste, so I'm going to re apply that, and see how it goes.

**UPDATE 3**
Thermal paste has fixed the issue. My GPU doesn't get too hot when playing games, but Idle temp is usually between 40*C and 55*C, although I assume that is down to the fact that I am running two monitors, and my room is very hot.

No need for full caps. But it isn't very dusty at all.

Doesn't take too much dust to cause problems, particularly when the evil stuff gets jammed into the heatsink fins.
Please link to your EXACT card, the 7870 came in a multitude of flavours and not all had good coolers.
In the meantime try:
Opening the case and see if it helps lower the temperatures (if so it indicates you need more/better fans).
Checking the GPU fan/s are turning. It's not unknown for one fan of a dual fan cooler to fail.
Ramp up the fan speed to 100% in the drivers, see if that helps, and also that the fans can actually run at 100%
If you live in North America you can take the cooler assembly off without voiding the warranty on an XFX card-But only there, elsewhere you loose it. :(

for what I see with xfx is its either a normal temp running card or a hot running card .. your not the first to post this on them and reading reviews like at newegg it seems to just be the case with them [??]

I have two fans on my GPU. Doubt Id be able to find the exact card online. And I have 4 intake fans, and 2 outake on my case. My fans were all running at max (including GPU)

I just pooped myself a bit, when I went into iTurbo and

But Speccy reported it fine, iTurbo is just buggy. And I live in England.
