You can always "get something better" by spending more so if you want someone to tell you if it is possible to get something that gives you significantly more bang per buck, we need to know the maximum number of bucks allowed.
As far as processing power is concerned, even Sandy Bridge i5 from three years ago would be a decent match for even more powerful GPUs than the 270X so no problem there. The 270X should have enough grunt to handle most modern games as well as long as you do not have crazy high expectations/requirements.
