I have a 30gb SSD and a 1tb HDD. The end goal is to have ONLY the OS on the SSD, and EVERYTHING else on the HDD. The SSD is only to increase initial boot time for win8.1. I want drivers, temp. internet files, game saves, contacts, configurations, all of it.... on the HHD. I have been looking for a clear answer for weeks now :(  Toms forums helped me learn to build desktop computers, and I know this amazing community can figure this out no problem!! TVVVVVM in advance :D

you can't put drivers on a separate disk, they alter the windows installation.
Just install windows on the SSD, and then install everything else to the HDD, that's it.
Right click on 'my documents and there are options to move it, temps are in advanced settings somewhere.

Well,.. want you want is not really practical.
You say "drivers" you want on HDD.. but windows does not do it like that.. some things you can move.. some things you cant (without REAL pain).. so IMHO.. you need do what you can.. and live with what you cant..
You will also have to deal with apps which will insist on putting some components (if not all) in the C Drive..
so a 30Gb drive might get tight after a while.

Cheers

A 30GB drive is simply too small for any current Windows installation.
Can you get it to run? Yes, of course. Can you use it on a daily basis? Only if you like messing with it ALL the time, instead of actually using the PC.

And if you want an SSD only to save a few seconds of boot time, you're not utilizing an SSD properly.

Further:
An SSD needs ~15% free space to allow TRIM to do its thing. So now you're down to 25GB.
Next Patch Tuesday....it will barf all over itself.

If you already own this drive, simply use it for a small, fast storage space. If you do not already have it, don't buy it.

Thanks yoji!!! So, just putting a game or 2 on the ssd that I play would be a better use? ( This desktop is for gaming only) I had the idea for faster booting b/c 8.1 takes too long to start XD I'm not a computer pro by ANY means, so I don't mind being told I'm asking the impossible lol!

As I did in my second post. "simply use it for a small, fast storage space."
