SpeedFan reads my CPU (i7-4770k) at 128 degrees Celsius but I don't know why

So I built my own computer a few months ago. Its been working fine even when rendering, 3d modeling, (light) gaming, programming, browsing the internet, etc. My computer had a CPU fan (aftermarket), one fan bringing air in, and one bringing it out. Three fans total. Today I got two more 140mm fans and I installed them. One brings in air, one brings it out. In total I have 5 case fans and one CPU fan.

Since I installed the fans, I wondered what my CPU and system temperature was. I turned on my PC, installed SpeedFan 4.49 and looked at it. I was very surprised to see this:

So far its stayed at a constant 128C, never changing, while the core temperatures go slightly up and down. Is this an error or should I be worried. When I installed the CPU fan, I put on the thermal paste and put the fan on the CPU, but accidently took it (the fan) off and then quickly put it back on. Could this have messed up the thermal paste or made it too thin?

I don't know, any help would be appreciated.

BTW: I changed the fan speeds to be higher to try to bring down the temp. They were originally at 60% but I made them higher

More about : speedfan reads cpu 4770k 128 degrees celsius

try using another program like hardware monitor. see if it the cpu reading or chipset reading. if both a re reading high. yu may have a lose cpu cooler.

I downloaded a few other CPU temperature readers and they say that my CPU temp is around 40C, isn't that pretty high for an idling CPU with a bunch of fans? Should I try to reapply the thermal paste?

I personally use a little program called "core temp" and yeah i would apply your own thermal paste. i would get arctic MX4. remember all you need is a little dab because it spreads out on its own.

depends on if the cpu over clocked or over voltages. if yur using an asus mb make sure it not set to performance mode. msi mb there fan set more on temp the last mb from msi i used the lowest temp for cpu fan was 40c.

Speedfan never ever works right. 128c the cpu would be melting onto the mobo.
