Hi. My Knigston DataTraveler 64GB stopped working properly. Last time, just a few hours ago I could access it, but now after it is connected, Windows wants me to format it. I have some important data there, so I'd very much like to recover them. I tried a few programs like iCare, 4Card, Asoftech, Remo Recover, Recuva... But most of them don't even 'see' the device. It is visible in My Computer on Win7 and on Mac though. Tried to run TestDisk on it, but I don't even know what partition table tybe to select. At last I tried to format it, but I can't even do that! Please, give me some advice!

Thanks for your reply. The drive gets recognized by this program, but I can't do anything with it - the scan options are all grayed out.

Is there anything else I can do, or force format the device with help of some of programs listed here: http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-8617-can-t-format-us... and then try recovering again? Will this kind (non-Windows) of formatting decrease my chances of recovering files drastically?

Click on "Start" --> In search bar, type cmd. Right-click on the command prompt

that appears in the search and select "Run as administrator".

"Command Prompt" will be opened.

Here I assume your flash drive as G:

Enter this command.

attrib -h -r -s /s /d g:\*.*

You can copy the above command --> Right-click in the Command Prompt and

paste it.

Note : Replace the letter g with your flash drive letter.

Now check for your files in Flash Drive.

Cmd can't find the specified path (H: here) - nothing happened. The command is good, works on other drives. Anyway, the drive in My Computer appears sometimes as a solid icon, and sometimes is translucent. I reinserted it into my PC, ran Active File Recovery again, and this time I was able to perform the scan. Name and size were read correctly. However, the result was all bad sectors. Why would it be so? I admit that the last time I used the drive, I unplugged it without the safety removal thing. But I've done this many times before and nothing bad ever happened. And I might have dropped it on the floor... I think the probability is rather low, but it could cause the pins to part from the PCB, right?

I've opened the drive's case and the pins seem to be intact. But here's another thing I've observed: when in Disk Management window I plug and unplug the drive, it sometimes doesn't get recognized at all; sometimes its upper border on the disk list is black - it says UNALLOCATED. And sometimes it's blue and says HEALTHY. And when it's healthy, I'm able to chkdsk it, with the result that filesystem is RAW, and I can use diskpart to select disk or volume. But the problem is that the device seems to disconnect from the pc every single time any action is taken regarding it - for example, if I chkdsk it once and then again in a second, the device is not found anymore. The same goes for diskpart - i can select a disk, but I can't clean it; I can select a volume, but can't format it. I've already used tons of programs, but none worked. So please tell me, is there anything else I can do other than throwing my pendrive into a thrash can?
