Hey guys,

After considering getting a 770 I decided a 290 was better value for money.

I'm looking for the best 290 I can get for £300, but can spend another £20 at most if it's worth it.

In your opinion what's the best 290 available?

they are both great cards! i would go with whichever one is cheaper. you cannot go wrong with picking either of them.
some facts i know about the msi cards:
when pc starts up the card exhausts air to clear dust from card

the sapphire has a backplate.

That one seems to have very good reviews, but I'm worried about noise and heat from the card. I don't have any intentions of OC it yet (since it runs everything maxed out at stock speeds), just want it to be relatively quiet and cool.

Basically, I want card that will run coolest and quietest!

The cards I'm looking at are:

the windforce runs cool but the smaller fans will make it run louder, the msi and the sapphire are great choices as well. its pretty much personal preference between those 3

Which would be best between the msi and sapphire? I'm pretty much choosing between them, unless there's a reason to get the Asus instead.
I guess the msi will be quieter due to the larger fans, but will have to spin faster to move as much air as the sapphire

From what I've read the sapphire has the best cooling, which usually means lower noise as the fans don't have to work as hard. I guess I'll give it a good think before I buy one!

I'm also going to America in a few weeks and could get the card there much cheaper. Should I get the tri x for $400 or the vapour x for $450? Is the extra $50 worth it?

And does anyone know if it's alright to take a graphics card on a a plane in hand luggage? I don't really want to leave it in the suitcase for it to be crushed!

I got Sapphire Tri-X, the cooling is insane, easily the best cooling I have ever seen - 70c and quiet while playing Bioshock Infinite on Ultra DX11.

However I have some annoying HDMI issue with it - black screen on initial boot, pretty sure it's only my card issue, but still.

And there is no backplate, but who cares really.

And I'd get Vapor-X if you decide between that and Tri-X, just because the factory overclock is greater on Vapor-X - you can easily overclock Tri-X to Vapor-X level, since the cooler is the same, actually, but with Vapor-X you retain warranty and I already had one card a couple of years ago where warranty saved my ass, so that's always a plus.

Yeah, I like the backplate on the Vapor-X and the fact that It has an overclock and the better warranty might come in handy.

Also, did you happen to know if I could take a GPU from the US to UK in hand luggage?

Yeah, I've messages BA because we're flying with them.

I think I'll go for the Vapour-X since I can get it cheaper in the US than I can get the Tri-X in the UK!

Thanks for the help :)
