i7 4790k cooling issue ? Tags: Cooling Intel i7 CPUs Last response: July 13, 2014 1:58 AM in CPUs Share BradBeau July 12, 2014 5:04:55 PM Hello I've recently made the swap over from AMD to Intel. Purchased the new i7 4790k with an Asus Maximus VII Hero board. All stock settings on CPU, and Stock cooler on Idle CPU is running 53C and on Prime95 running a blend test I got into the 90s before I stopped the test. My old cpu rarely hit 50C and ran idle in the 30Cs, so the strikes me odd. I've tried reseating the cooler to make sure that wasn't the issue. And reapplied thermal paste. Should I be concerned and return this ? Maybe adjusting voltage in mobo ? Also is it normal that all the cpu core temps bounce around ? Thanks More about : 4790k cooling issue Reply to BradBeau PandaBear270 a b à CPUs July 12, 2014 5:11:59 PM Default heatsink? They are sometimes good, but sometimes they suck. For that chip get an Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. Your best bet is to spend about 30 dollars and get a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. Solid cooler, won't set you back a ton of money, and would do well for a basic overclock if that is your wish. Assuming airflow is decent Reply to BradBeau m 0 l BradBeau July 13, 2014 1:38:42 AM Simply playing Wildstar and hit 90C and game started skipping really bad Reply to BradBeau m 0 l BradBeau July 13, 2014 1:44:34 AM Turned off turbclock, increased stock heatsink fan to turbo, and updated bios until I can get a 212 Evo. Same situation runnin around 60C.
