hello guys,

just finished building a few hours ago, installed windows, everything was going on great, installed lan/sound/usb 3.0 and later installed latest gpu driver for radeon R9 280x from internet. so after gpu drivers instalation AND restart the resolution became messed up.

The usual and before drivers res was 1980x1080p. But now it is surrounded by a "black frame"
I have opened AMD cataclyst control server to try and fix the problem and the maximum resolution I am able to set there us 1680x1050. mode 1080p 60hz color quality 32bit.

I tried going to HDTV support section and apply any of the 1980 resolutions but it just appears with that dark frame around.

Any solutions ?

Installing the driver i have linked above didn't help. The desktop area now has 1980x1080 resolution but when I apply it the black frame around my desktop appears ( the way i am trying to imagine is that res is somehow set to 1680 and that black frame appears trying to add to become 1980 )

Should I try even older version ? because I have no idea what to do and where is the problem. Everything works just fine until i instal amd drivers..

yes, everything did .

ahm. I was reading forum looking for similar problems, popped "image scaling" into cataclyst search > scaling options ( digital flat-panel) and it was on underscan 10%. I moved it towards overscan so it became 0% and the screen now is fine. YAHOO!

should i also tick the box on " use scaling values instead of customized settings when the desktop resolution does not match your DFP resolution"

and tick the box in properties (digital flat panel) on "enable GPU scaling" ?

it seems to work fine without those ticks but I havent restarted yet

EDIT: should i go for the newest drivers since it was a scaling problem ?
