I have Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 14.01 dual booted onto the SanDisk SSD. While on the Linux partition, I have 0 problems; the PC can Sleep and Hibernate with ease and no errors indicating that it isn't a hardware issue. When I try to sleep on my PC, my screen turns off but nothing in the tower so much as slows down; the PC remains in a fully awake state.

I have gone through every single device in the device manager and nothing is set to wake the PC besides my keyboard.
Sleep is enabled (powercfg -a shows s3 sleep and hibernate options available)
powercfg -requests turns up nothing
powercfg -energy does not show any errors that would keep the PC awake
I've gone through all the power options in the control panel to no avail
media streaming is disabled
I'm not on a homegroup
setting the power button to force the PC to sleep does nothing
I've re-installed windows twice (once an install over the previous version, second after a full drive wipe)
I've updated all the drivers in my system
Automount did nothing (suggestion from someone)
Turning off every single program (End Process/kill) still wouldn't let the PC Sleep

I've done anything and everything that I could think of/ suggestions I found online. Nothing has worked at all and it's driving me insane. I've spent way too much time trying to solve this issue and I really can't afford to continue wasting my time with this. Please Please Please, can someone think of a solution?

Perhaps you've already done this, and don't take offense if you have, but have you gone into the BIOS and checked your settings there? Generally there are power scheme settings in there and I think some MB's can override windows settings. As to why it would affect windows and not Linux, I can't answer that, but as you know, they are two different beasts. If your BIOS settings seem ok and the problem persists you might try to reload default BIOS settings and then double check. Also, have you tried turning any wifi off and unplugging your lan cable, if in use? Make sure S3 or Suspend to ram mode is enabled in the BIOS. Also check with ASRock to see if a BIOS update is available for your board. You might also want to try turning off the IPv6 in network properties. Seems it's worked for some people. Good Luck.

No Offense at all! I'll take any suggestions in case I missed something. I have checked all the BIOS settings and everything is as it should be. I even flashed the newest version of the ASRock BIOS but it changed nothing. Disconnecting the wifi didn't do anything nor did disabling IPv6. I'm slowly starting to think there is no solution to this infernal problem >.<

Sharing has been disabled and I'm the only computer on my network. I set notifications to off but it didn't make a difference =/

Go to the hardware store and get a big f%^#ing hammer. Unplug the computer and set it on a hard concrete surface. Now smash the f%# out of it until it goes to sleep! Just kidding. I'm sure you've already thought of doing that. Seriously, I know a LOT of people have had sleep issues with sleep/hibernate in windows 8.1 that didn't have problems in windows 8. Might want to check this. Go into device manager and look in the advanced settings for both your wifi if you have it and you lan network adapter. Make sure none of the settings, not just on the power management tab, but also in the advanced tab, are set to always on. Make sure they are all set to settings that would allow for power management. Sometimes it just takes one stupid setting to screw up everything.

I still have not found any sort of answer to this infernal problem. I have tried every single solution possible and nothing has worked at all. I am beyond frustrated at this point; so much so that I'm considering scrapping windows all together again. If only steam + my school software worked on linux. I would drop windows so fast because f**k this stupid OS. Here are two screencaps of the more commonly recommended solutions/ diagnostic tools (http://imgur.com/a/MKHNa). If you have any sort of possible solution, PLEASE let me know.

EDIT: oh finally!! Right after I posted this, I got the idea to disable hibernation and boom, finally worked. Yet to see if my computer will turn off automatically, but at least I know I can finally put it to sleep. Command used was powercfg -h off

Right on. Glad to hear you solved it. I'll remember that for in the future. I realize you shouldn't "have" to disable hibernation in order to be able to sleep, but hey, as long as it works I guess you gotta take what you can get huh? Do you mind if I use that in a tutorial on steps to take in order to get Windows 8.1 to sleep for those trying to solve the same issue? Good luck to you.
