Hi,

I was wondering(as stated in title), I have a GTX 770 on my pcie x16_1. Will using my pcie x1 tv QAM receiver on my pcie x16_2 slow my graphics card down?(will it change the first slot to x8?

Thanks

Solution

No, not at all. The GTX 770 card will only be lowered to X8 if you are SLI'ing the card when the lanes need to be shared. The T.V. receiver will not effect the GTX 770, and the bandwidth will stay the same.

It will depend on what motherboard you have and how the pci-e lanes are split up.
If the board/cpu supports x16/x16 (or x16/x8) then it wont effect the first x16 slot, if it only supports x8/x8 then it will more then likely drop the first pci-e slot down to x8 simply because the second slot is populated.

My motherboard is the ASUS Sabertooth p67 motherboard. I'm trying to add my qam receiver but have no pcie x1 slots left(my asus xonar dx soundcard is using my only pcie x1 slot)

Is your qam receiver low profile? If it is I would recommend going to e-bay or other store and getting a cheap adapter board, this will help you with compatibility. What you want to do, would probably slow it down more without an adapter but doubt that it would be very noticeable depending upon what you are trying to do exactly (what settings you are using and so forth). Either way it will slow it a little but with the adapter is should not be as limited.

Depends on your motherboard, I have an Asus P8Z77-V LK. The PCIE 16 3.0_1 slot changes to x8 when you use the 1 and 2 slots at the same time. I put the GTX780 in the first slot (blue) and put my PCIE x1 sound card into the third slot (black) to keep the video at x16.
