I'm wondering if I accidentally leave a pc game on pause for hours if it will harm my computer?

I know it's the same as playing the game for hours but what if I play the game for hours and then fall asleep for 8 hours will my computer still be fine as long all the fans and etc work perfectly? Or will it harm my computer?

As long as the PC build (importantly the CPU heatsink ect) is sound then you will be fine to do that. I personally dont but my friend is forever leaving his PC crunching something overnight.

I have my PC on 24/7. Do you know that everytime you shutdown and start the computer, the components suffer from power tension drops and the lifespan is reduced?

There is most of the time no harm to a computer by leaving it on, but I would recommend that your quit your game or ALT-TAB to the desktop while you are not playing it. When on the desktop you will see that your game is using 0% CPU power and it is paused. This is actually important.

I have seen cases when people's PC got damaged, specifically the famous Starcraft 2 boot screen has burned down many computers because it had no frame limiting enabled at launch (http://www.dailytech.com/Hot+Starcraft+II+is+Frying+Gra...)

Remember also that your computer is using a fair amount of power and if you run a game while you are sleeping it can use 500+ Watts of electricity which is not a good thing.
Personally I wouldnt be able to sleep, knowing that so much power is wasted when I could have just make my PC quickly sleep.
If you make your computer "sleep" (instead of shutting down) using the sleep option then you can wake it up using the mouse buttons and it should go back to where you were within a second. I have been doing that for the past 10 years. It doesn't switch the computer completely off as the memory still gets power, but the fans are off (no noise) and it uses minimal electricity and it comes back on within a second or two.

Thanks, was curious if I should make a point of remembering to shut my programs off before I go to bed, I tend to knock out before I realize I have something still paused
